A nation’s range is the size of the area of land that includes all of that nation’s holdings. A nation cannot expand its range beyond a 500 x 500 area. If, for example, a nation holds land squares ranging from 100 W through 400 E, then the width of their range is 500, and they won’t be able to settle land any further east until they’ve evacuated their western-most territories. The limit of a nation’s range shows up in the map view as a dotted line.
