A nation has 3 stats that determine how well they do in battle, both attacking and defending: Tech, Bio, and Psi. A nation can select advances that increase these stats, and may choose to specialize in one or two of them, or else to balance all three. The combat stats have a rock-paper-scissors relationship, so a nation that specializes in one stat will be especially strong against nations that specialize in one of the other stats, but will also be especially weak against nations that specialize in the other. A nation that balances all three combat stats, however, will be just moderately strong against other nations regardless of their specialization.

Tech

This is how advanced your nation is at building machines and technologies using scientific principles. In battle, Tech is especially strong against Bio, but vulnerable to Psi.

Tech

Bio

The measure of your nation’s ability to manipulate all kinds of living systems. In battle, Bio is especially strong against Psi, but vulnerable to Tech.

Bio

Psi

Your nation’s degree of mastery of the esoteric arts, including psychic phenomena, unseen dimensions of reality, and manifestations of magic. In battle, Psi is especially strong against Tech, but vulnerable to Bio.

Psi

When attacking a square belonging to another nation, your nation will automatically use the combat stat that the defending nation is most vulnerable to. The defending nation will also automatically defend with their combat stat that best blunts the force of your attack. On the battle display you can see icons representing the stats that are being used by each nation in the battle, to the left of the attacker and defender bars.

In addition to increasing your combat stats by developing advances, another very valuable way of boosting these stats is by capturing certain resources found throughout the landscape. For example, Iron Deposits will boost your nation’s Tech stat, while Unique Ecosystems will boost the Bio stat. (See Resources.)

Before attacking another nation you can get info about that nation to see what their combat stat value are, and determine whether an attacking against them is likely to succeed. (See Nation Info.)
